As the recession bit deeper many employers reduce staff or introduce hiring
freezes. By August 2009 JP had revealed further loss from the advertising
slump as it reported half-year losses of £94.2million. It also revealed it had cut
a further 439 jobs to take its total workforce down to 5,969, this followed a 15
per cent staff reduction the previous year.
The share price continued to fall and by 2012 JP was at one point trading
between 10 and 13 pence a share.
