                 Strategy

Once a SWOT is completed there are four strategies

management can choose from to guide the future

                 direction of the company, namely:

                         Growth,

                         Stability,

                         Retrenchment, and

                         Combination

In terms of Generic strategy Barclays have chosen to
retrench into their primary markets of the U.S. and

U.K./Europe through developing their digital footprint as

he future driver. At the same time costs are being

attacked as high cost branches are disposed of.

Jes Staley came under pressure from investors over his

decision to reallocate money towards Barclays’

investment bank in the hope that it could challenge on

                 both sides of the Atlantic.

Investment banks specialize in large and complex

financial transactions, such as underwriting, acting as an

intermediary between a securities issuer and the

investing public, facilitating mergers and other corporate

reorganizations, and acting as a broker and/or financial

                 advisor for institutional clients.
