Strategy
Once a SWOT is completed there are four strategies
management can choose from to guide the future
direction of the company, namely:
Growth,
Stability,
Retrenchment, and
Combination
In terms of Generic strategy Barclays have chosen to
retrench into their primary markets of the U.S. and
U.K./Europe through developing their digital footprint as
he future driver. At the same time costs are being
attacked as high cost branches are disposed of.
Jes Staley came under pressure from investors over his
decision to reallocate money towards Barclays’
investment bank in the hope that it could challenge on
both sides of the Atlantic.
Investment banks specialize in large and complex
financial transactions, such as underwriting, acting as an
intermediary between a securities issuer and the
investing public, facilitating mergers and other corporate
reorganizations, and acting as a broker and/or financial
advisor for institutional clients.
