STEP 5: Select the best alternative
Once the alternatives have been identified the best must be
selected.
So, having developed a list of options first, without judging
them, it is time to take the final step and evaluate them. To
this end a method of evaluating them and selecting the
most appropriate one needs to be developed. However,
keep in mind that doing nothing is often a reasonable
alternative.
There may be a dozen or more solutions that present
themselves not all of which are realistic in terms of
constraints of the situation and resources of the
organisation.
Outline these alternatives and pick that alternative which
best meets the criteria used.
Explain why this one was selected and the others were
rejected. What were the constraints/reasons that led to this
choice for example, develop a list which addresses, in light
of the available case information, elements such as:
