Step 4
STEP 4: Develop and evaluate alternatives
Having analysed the issues, solutions will have begun to
percolate. However, it is important not to jump to the first
solution that rises to the surface. In other words avoid
reaching for a solution too quickly.
Make a list of the relevant alternative solutions that address
the problems identified and think about the costs and
benefits associated with each. Having already prioritised the
problems it may help to prioritise these alternative solutions
in terms of problem solution.
Help in arriving at this prioritisation may be aided by
addressing the comparisons thrown up between the
alternatives arising from the output from the diagnostic
tools used. Likewise, assessment of the alternatives’ timing
whether they are long or short term in nature may be
crucial. In addition, consideration should be given to the
impact on the various levels of the organisation.
