BofA is one of the largest banks in the world, with a history
that dates back more than 200 years through its heritage
banks.
Over the last fifty years BofA has experienced a couple of
key periods of growth. The first in the 1990s saw it take
advantage of a domestic economic upturn which saw it
consolidate on the losses it made in the 1980s when it made
loans to emerging markets that went bad.
BofA “used acquisitions to bolster its size, including the
purchases of California-based Security Pacific and Chicago's
Continental Illinois National Bank and Trust.”
