In 2017 TSB profits suffered a downturn but because of the
achievement of other targets, the first TSB award – which
gives employees roughly the equivalent of six weeks’ pay – is
being paid out amounting to a total of £26m. An idea Pester
had taken from John Lewis, Partnership which awards its
partners an annual bonus. It was believed that such a
scheme would help to bring long-term sustainability to TSB.
Responding to the bank’s financial results for 2017, Pester
said:
“the figures – showing 1,000 new accounts
opening daily with customer deposits now
surpassing £30bn – had “cemented” the lender’s
position as a challenger bank that could meet the
needs of small business owners.”
Pester also, in an official statement, championed the bank’s
delivery of a “state-of-the-art banking platform”, which is
allowing customers to become some of the first to use
Apple’s new facial recognition technology to log into
accounts. However, TSB had attracted some controversy for
a system of profiling customers, putting them in four
categories:
logical thinker,
amiable,
controller or
emotional expressive.
