WRITING STYLE
Case Step 1
Often the steps in the process of writing a case study are
given as follows:
1: Teaching objective
2: Identify the case lead
3: Collect information through documents and/or interviews
4: Write the case and obtain permission to publish
5: Write the Teaching Notes and test run the case in a class
situation – observe and amend.
These steps look impressive at first sight. However, if taken
in a prescriptive manner they will only lead to a trickle of
case studies being developed.
In my experience cases develop from a multitude of stimuli
varying from newspaper articles, news documentaries,
colleagues, supervised student dissertations, guest lectures
and so on.
Accessing the media is a critical step in case lead generation.
