What influences impact upon strategy alternatives?
What are the:
- decision-maker's sources of power? (legitimate, reward, punishment, expert,
referent)
- possible leverage points (changing technology such as machines, processes, product
designs; changing organizational structure; changing reward systems, job descriptions,
education, changing personnel, changing culture)
- constraints on the solution? (time, money, organizational traditions, prior
commitments, external realities, legal etc)
- available resources (time, money, people, existing relationships, power)
Moreover can individual behaviour be changed (education, training, reward systems,
job description, etc.)
Think about the context for generating alternatives
2. RECOMMENDED STRATEGY
Which strategic alternative is chosen and why? What are the expected
results?
Once a preferred solution is defined, assign a probability estimate to
each stage of its implementation in order to achieve a measure of its
overall chances of success.
3. JUSTIFICATION
Show clearly which analysis methods were used and how they relate to
the proposed strategy.
Remember that there is no one solution; all solutions have costs and
benefits; identify pros and cons of each alternative; evaluate relative to
goals; look at main and side effects
