John 7: 11- Then the Jews sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he?

John 7: 12- And there was much murmuring among the people concerning
him: for some said, He is a good man: others said, Nay; but he deceiveth
                                                       the people.

John 7: 13- Howbeit no man spake openly of him for fear of the Jews.

               Lesson Notes:

(John 7:11-13) – There were Jews looking for Him at the feast and many questions were raised
to determine if He was present. There was a great deal of murmuring among the people about
His character among those attending the feast. Some believed He was a good man while others
believed He was deceiving the people that believed in Him.

The was fear among many Jews to openly talk about Him. There was great concerned about
the consequences they would bear from their Elders and religious leaders.

John 7: 14- Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the
                                                  temple, and taught.
John 7: 15- And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters,
                                                 having never learned?
John 7: 16- Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but
                                                    his that sent me.

               Lesson Notes:

(John 7:14-16) – Amid all the whispers questioning if He was present for the Feast, the Messiah
breaks His secrecy, choosing to openly teach in the temple.
The Jews in attendance are astounded by His teaching marveling in trying to understand how a
man without official Jewish credentials could so intently know the letters (words) of Torah.
The son of God explains that His authority in Torah is not self-determined or affirmed by the
doctrine (disciplined instruction) of other men. His doctrine does not belong to Him, the
discipline and foundation of His instruction belongs to God. This is the formal reveal that
distinguishes the doctrine of man from the doctrine of God.

John 7:25- Then said some of them of Jerusalem, Is not this he, whom
                                                    they seek to kill?
John 7:26- But, lo, he speaketh boldly, and they say nothing unto him. Do
the rulers know indeed that this is the very Christ?
John 7:27- Howbeit we know this man whence he is: but when Christ
cometh, no man knoweth whence he is.

                                                                                                           77
