Glossary of Terms
Certification Body (CB) (also known as Registrar)
An entity that is authorized to certify its suppliers,
confirming they conform to the requirements of a
specific standard.
Certification Scheme
A scheme consisting of a certification standard
and certification system as related to specified
processes to which the same particular scheme
applies. The certification scheme should contain at
least:
• A standard
• A clearly defined scope
• A certification system, including auditor
qualifications, audit length and minimum
content of audit report
Competence
Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge and skills.
Conflict of Interest
Where either a certification body or an auditor is in a
position of trust requiring them to exercise
judgment on behalf of others and also has interests
or obligations (whether financial or otherwise) of the
sort that might interfere with their exercise of
judgment.
