Glossary of Terms
Auditor
A person with demonstrated personal attributes
and competence to conduct an audit on behalf of
a certification body.

Capability
The ability of an organization, system or process
to realize a product that will fulfill the requirements
for that product.
Certification Cycle
Period from a supplier’s certification to re-
certification or from recertification to the following
recertification, as appropriate.
Certification
ISO standards and food safety standards like
BRCGS and SQF have specific requirements that
a company must meet. Accredited third-party
certification bodies, like EAGLE, audit companies
to ensure that they are in conformance with the
standard and that their system is effective and
robust. Once approved, an official accredited
certificate (or certification) is issued.
