1. Student Loan Forgiveness Incentives
• High levels of debt puts pressure on new dentists to pursue
opportunities in areas that will provide the most immediate income,
typically in urban and suburban areas where there are no dentist
shortages.
2. Medicaid Dental Benefits and Reimbursement Rates
• In several surveys, low reimbursement rates have shown to be one of
the top reason dental providers do not participate in their state
Medicaid program.
3. ER Diversion Programs
• Provides a framework by which patients can address their dental
needs before they become emergencies.
4. Community Dental Health Coordinator (CDHC)
• Developed by the American Dental Association (ADA), the CDHC
program trains dental hygienists and dental assistants to provide oral
health prevention, patient navigation and case management services
to patients.
