Dental Therapy Opponent Arguments/Rebuttal
1. Members of underserved communities are among the most
medically compromised with a greater need for extensive
care. Limited scope providers would not adequately serve
this need.
2. The dental therapy model creates a two-tiered oral
healthcare system where underserved patients are
redirected to providers with less training than dentists.
• All patients deserve the best care from the highest
trained professionals regardless of their socio-economic
status.
3. Dental therapy models are designed to treat symptoms of
dental disease instead of the disease itself.
• As general dentists, we understand the significance of
establishing dental homes for all to best support the
patient’s long term oral health.
