Repeal of the Medical Device Tax
• A small but important part of the 2010 ACA was the 2.3%
medical device excise tax, which was levied on the
manufacturer, producer, or importer of the device
• The tax resulted in higher prices as well as less R&D
• The tax failed to lower healthcare costs for consumers, and
increased costs and burdens on the healthcare industry
• It was suspended with bipartisan support in 2016 but was set
to go back into effect at the end of 2019
