Repeal of the Medical Device Tax
• The dental device manufacturing industry estimated that
reinstatement of the medical device excise tax could have
increased the cost of dental care by more than $160 million
annually
• Tax violated multiple principles of sound tax policy
• Outsized burden on dentistry, as tax rationale under ACA was
that there would be more patients and thus more revenue to
offset cost
• However, ACA did not result in additional revenue related to
the adult dental patient segment
