shelter which is currently under construction. Station No 2 is a smaller 11,000 sf, 2-bay single-
story station accommodating up to 6 fire fighters per shift. Construction is anticipated to start
in 2023. Both facilities feature the latest in red/yellow/green design principles. As part of our
services, we also assisted the client in a social media campaign and participated in
community meetings to garner support for the bond referendum needed to construct the
facilities.
• Summit Fire Headquarters. In 2014, we completed an Existing Facility Assessment of the
Summit Fire Headquarters building which dates back to 1902. The assessment concluded
that construction of a new fire headquarters would represent the most cost-effective means
to provide the fire department with the improved facilities they needed. Site constraints led
to a $15M, 33,000 sf multi-story design solution that provides four bays to house the
department's entire fleet of apparatus, and accommodations for up to 24 firefighters per
shift. The design also includes the latest in red/yellow/green design principles as well as on-
site training features. Construction completion is slated for 2023.
• In 2022, the Reston office also expanded our public safety training portfolio. Teaming with
Clark Nexsen (CN) and Elliott LeBoeuf & McElwain (ELM), together we completed feasibility
studies for Central Piedmont Community College Public Safety Training Academy and
Davidson Davie Heath and Public Training Facilities in North Carolina. We also provided
Master Planning services for the Chesapeake Heritage Park Public Safety Training Facility
located in Chesapeake, VA which will begin design in 2023. Additionally, we were awarded
the Morgantown Public Safety Training Academy project entailing programming, site
feasibility studies/Master Planning with full design anticipated to follow. To round out the
year, we teamed with IStudio, a DC based firm, along with CN and ELM and were awarded
preliminary design for the Joint Fire and Police Training Center. Full design services are
anticipated in the future based on funding availability.
Texas:
• City of Victoria. Brian Meade led a team on the City of Victoria through a space needs study
and facility condition assessment for the Police Department, Courts, and Dispatch. The study
was completed and accepted in early 2022. FGMA is currently engaged in two projects: an
additional study and a new public safety complex. The additional study is to review at least
twenty more public buildings, that study is anticipated to be completed in March of 2023. In
October 2022, FGMA also started the design for a new public safety headquarters that will
house the Victoria Police Department, including dispatch services; Victoria Fire Department
administration; and the City of Victoria Municipal Court. The project is anticipated to be
completed by the middle of 2025.
• City of Austin. In 2022, Brian Meade and Ray Lee completed a programming exercise for the
City of Austin Police Department, a department of over 1,200 staff members. FGMA’s role
was part of a larger public safety study consisting of Austin Police Department, Austin Fire
Department and Emergency Management Services. FGMA continues to track and pursue the
City of Austin’s effort to implement the study. The City of Austin is looking at public private
partnership for the development of a public safety complex on an existing city owned
property known as the Rutherford Campus and will involve the sale of the current police
headquarters located in downtown Austin. The RFP is anticipated to be released around
March 2023.
• In addition, FGMA is working on two projects under an existing City of Austin rotation
contract. The current project is a dual plumbing study. This project is part of the City of
Austin’s Water Forward and Climate Action Plan initiative to reduce potable water by
