Figure 8: Percentage success rates, 2015–2024
The success rate is defined as the completion of full-time equivalents (FTEs), expressed as a percentage of the enrolled FTEs. The data reveal that the DUT consistently surpasses the target set by the DHET, which stands at ~84% for success rates in 2024. Figure 8 presents the unrounded success rates to highlight any minor changes over time. A steady decline is evident in success rates since 2021, with 87.20% recorded for 2021 and 81.87% for 2023. This 5.3% decrease in success rate seems to stem partially from the transition from continuous face-to-face assessments in several programmes. However, a strong recovery is evident, based on the 83.88% achieved in 2024, indicating that the interventions associated with tutoring and closer monitoring of at-risk models and students was beneficial.
Gender
In 2024 female success rates rose by 2%, while male success rates increased by 3%. Despite these gains, females have consistently outperformed males since 2022. The academic performance gap between genders has remained steady, varying slightly from 9% in 2022 to 7% in 2024, as shown in Figure 9. This indicates that females, on average, continue to achieve higher academic success rates than males at the University.
