The “My Future Your Future” project is designed to empower high school students in rural areas by emphasizing the importance of education and providing crucial information on how to apply for university. Many students lack access to information and resources, which this programme aims to address through awareness videos that tackle issues such as teenage pregnancy, HIV and AIDS, sexually transmitted infections, substance abuse, depression, and gender-based violence. This project helps matric students explore their identities and career options, encouraging them to pursue further education. It aligns with DUT’s ENVISION2030 by focusing on student recruitment and developing students’ mindsets to overcome challenges and seize educational opportunities.
IMPACT AND SUSTAINABILITY
The project addresses significant challenges faced by rural students, such as limited internet access and lack of awareness about safe
practices, which contribute to high rates of teenage pregnancy and other issues. By creating visual content and educational videos, the project ensures that students are better informed and supported in making positive life choices. Sustainability is achieved by continuously producing impactful results, which benefit not only the students but also the broader community. The project fosters collaboration among DUT students from various fields, such as Drama and Video Technology, who work together to create educational content, ensuring the project’s ongoing success.
