In 2023, the university registered 3,458 more female students than male students, representing a proportionate increase of 0.6% (54.72% to 55.31%) from 2022 to 2023. This increase was especially evident in PG enrolments, especially in the Master’s degree programmes. In 2023, females slightly outnumbered males, making up 51.19% of the enrolment in PG segment. Figure 5 illustrates the upward trajectory in the percentage of female students within the total enrolment at the university since 2014.

Enrolments by Field of Study
Enrolments by field of study holds significant importance within the UoT sector, with a particular focus on boosting overall enrolments in the Science, Engineering, and Technology (SET) domain, especially among female students. However, the university witnessed a decline of 1.44% in undergraduate Science, Engineering, and Technology (SET) enrolments from 2021– to 2022, though it slightly improved from 38.96% of the total enrolment in 2022 to 39.15% in 2023. Similarly, enrolments in SET PG programmes also experienced a decline, dropping from 44.21% in 2022 to 41.42% in 2023.
Regarding other fields of study, enrolments in business/commerce remained steady at 42% of the total enrolments from 2022 to 2023, with a slight surge in PG up to Master’s qualifications, increasing from 37.37% in 2022, to 42.84% in 2023. However, enrolments in the Humanities saw a 0.27% decrease from 2022 to 2023. Figure 6 offers a visual depiction of these enrolment trends across various fields of study.
