Figure 7 presents data on the distribution of male and female students across the four fields of study, relative to total enrolments. Over the past three years, the most notable increase in female enrolments has occurred in the SET field, increasing from 18% in 2022 to 19% in 2023. However, male students in the SET field decreased from 21% in 2022 to 20% in 2023. In the Business/Commerce field, the proportion of female students decreased from 26% in 2022 to 25% in 2023, while male students remained steady at 17% in both years. The gender distribution of enrolments in the Humanities exhibited a 1% decrease in female students (from 8% to 7%), while male students remained constant at 5%. In the Education field, female enrolments rose by 1% (from 3% to 4%), whereas male enrolments decreased by 1% (from 3% to 2%) from 2022 to 2023.

Figure 8 depicts the discrepancies in enrolments across major fields of study based on race during the period from 2021 to 2023. Specifically, between 2022 and 2023, African student enrolments in the Business/Commerce and SET fields increased by 1% each, reaching 41% and 34%, respectively. In contrast, African student enrolments in the Humanities and Education fields experienced a 1% increase from 2021 to 2022, reaching 12% and 6%, respectively, which remained unchanged in 2023. However, there has been a downward trend in the percentage of enrolments in the SET field for all other racial groups, decreasing by 1% each year from 7% in 2021 to 5% in 2023. These patterns underscore the disparities in enrolment distribution across racial groups in various fields of study.
