Complex projects like the Gargoyle Carousel take a lot of planning

             and careful measuring.

The carousel is made with two 18 inch round wooden circles. The
base is thick and heavy, and the top is an assemblage of a flat
round wooden circle, an upside down wooden bowl, a wooden

knob, laser cut cardboard designs glued to the rim of the round

board, and a shipping tube with a large round dowel hidden inside
the tube (to provide support for the top of the carousel). Since the
shipping tube has a glossy finish, we had to use wood glue to cover

it in watercolor paper to provide a porous surface for painting it
             with wax.

We also developed an assembly strategy that would let us build,

sculpt, and paint each of the characters and sections of the
carousel individually and assemble them together as needed

             without gluing them all together.
