In 2023, MCSC had three “One Design” Ensigns in our fleet of 32. These
boats were upgraded from our sailing school design to include more sail
controls and multiple sails, providing more to our experienced sailors.
MCSC is in the middle of a re-design of 20 of its fleet now, to bring the
sail controls from “sailing school” to
“almost One Design legal” for the Jib &
Main fleet. If you are interested in our
day-to-day operations, MCSC has a
robust social media and e-newsletter with
updates on the fleet, boat changes,
programming, and our summer schedule.
Just contact Teresa at
teresa@sailingcenter.org for more
information.
The MCSC fleet goes out 7-days a week, 10 am until just before sunset,
from opening day (April 27) until closing day (October 20). On a regular
day we have the Ensigns out for Adult Basic, Intermediate, and
Advanced classes; summer camp field trips and sailing experiences for
kids; and on Fridays we offer our Adaptive Sailing Program: free boat
rides for people with disabilities and their friends and family. On any
given Friday that means we take out about 80 people! On Sundays, we
race.
Sunday Racing at MCSC is for
serious…fun, as well as for serious
learners. We don’t take official score,
but the races are run by the book, so
that MCSC Ensign sailors are ready for
the four regattas we run every summer:
Mid-Season Championship;
Quarterbarrel Regatta; Ensign
Championship; Fall Regatta. Because
the fleet is owned by MCSC, boats are chosen by random drawing the
day before the regattas. This gives teams a chance to check rigging,
tuning, and to clean the bottom (although because our boats rack up
thousands of hours in the summer it’s rare for them to need a
scrubbing!).
