To say 2023 was a busy year for Fleet 70
would be an understatement. We started
the year early in May with a workday to
get boats ready to go in the water. Along
with the workday we also had a Fleet 70
potluck to keep comradery going. Most
of the boats were in the water and ready
to sail by the end of May. We had a
couple Saturdays of practice before our
Championship Series started.

We raced a 10-week championship
series with the winner in the end being
David Bluhm skippering Legacy. Mike
Bass sailing Shamrock came in second,
followed closely behind by Paul Slotsema sailing Joan!!! Most Saturdays
saw between 8-10 boats on the line and most of our racing took place on
Lake Michigan in anticipation of the Ensign Nationals in August.

Our Beer Can Races were held every
Wednesday night and turnout was
excellent for these races. We usually
ended up with as many or more boats
than on Saturday. Many new people
were able to experience the thrill of
Ensign racing especially on these
Wednesday night races. It is always fun
to have a crowd on the dock of the
Pentwater Yacht Club for the finish of
these Wednesday Night Races.

The highlight of our whole summer for the Fleet 70 members was hosting
the 2023 Ensign National Regatta. We had 34 boats registered and
good winds for most of the races. Monday was rainy, so everyone got a
chance to use their foul weather gear and make sure it worked or in
