many cases it didn’t. Many racers came in on Monday afternoon looking
like “drowned rats”, but free beer made their moods improve quickly.
Thursday was a rain out, so the regatta ended with eight total races.
By the time the fall season rolled around, many of our racers were raced
out, but a small number of boats continued to race every Saturday during
the end of August and early September. The fall series trophy went to II
Vento skippered by Pete Zangara and Mike Guerico.
Regatta Banquet was held on September 23 where awards were given
out for the Ensign Class, Off-Shore Fleet and Sunfish Fleet. The PYC is
working very hard to bring sailing to the forefront of all activities at the
club and get more and more people involved in the sailing program.
This year especially it is important to thank the many volunteers that
helped make the Ensign Nationals possible. A big part of that was our
Regatta Chair Mike Bass and his committee of merry men and women.
Also thank you to our Race Committee who is always there to start and
finish our races every week. They include Mary Sue Rischar, Beth
Alderman, Lindsay Marriott, Sara Johnson and Joan VanZile.
Just after Christmas, we found out that the Pentwater Yacht Club was
awarded the US Sailing One Design Club of the Year Award for 2024.
Chris Conroy submitted the application on behalf of the PYC. Mike Bass
our current Vice Commodore accepted the award in Savannah GA on
Feb 1. What a great honor for the Fleet and the PYC.
