In March Platypus and crew made the trek to Columbia Sailing Club for
the Ensign Midwinter Regatta on Lake Murray. Dave Willner led
Platypus to a 4th place finish.

Our Championship season started on June 24th with weekly racing
through September 5th with a mid-season break after week five. A total
of 13 races were held. This year saw great improvements to our
qualifying numbers with seven boats qualified for the Championship
Series, as compared to 2022’s three boats. We again had two
remarkable junior sailors skippering their own boats: Jimmy McCann and
#139 Brigand and Cameron Hart and #710 Irish Mist.

The Championship Series was won by Alan and Trace Dittenhofer
aboard Smoke.

Toms River Yacht Club hosted their annual Sunset Sail Series, and Fleet
63 was well represented in the Outboard B division with 4 boats
registered. The 10 week-long series is a fun and low-key handicap
sailing event for keel boats and cabin boats and is held every
Wednesday evening on the Toms River.

The Toms River Yacht Club Rotary Sailfest Regatta was won overall by
Alan and Trace Dittenhofer aboard Smoke amongst a respectable fleet
of well-equipped and sailing PHRF boats.

Region I championship was hosted by Fleet 63 and the Sea Scout Ship
117 on September 16th and 17th and won by Bud Brown and Lorelei.

We are thankful for the support from all of the organizations working to
keep Ensign sailing alive, including the Ensign Class Association, and
Barnegat Bay Yacht Racing Association as well as all of the members of
Fleet 63 and the Ensign Class as a whole.
