Quartet Notes
VOCE Quartet
The past months have brought lots of hard work and joy, as well as rest and relaxation for VOCE Quartet...but
not too much rest! Having received our highest international score yet, we were honored to receive 13th place,
with a top-fifteen “bye” at Vegas ‘17. We’re grateful to be able to continue our weekly rehearsal schedule for
this hobby that we love so much, despite the summer traffic on the Mass Pike! We “ZOOM”meet together
online keep in touch between rehearsals and for business meetings so we use our live time together for mostly
singing!
Our lives “outside” of barbershop have been pretty busy since spring: Judy enjoyed her eldest son Ian’s
graduation from college, his first big job, and a family trip to Bermuda. Beth’s two sons were in a summer
travel lacrosse program well into July, and she just introduced us to her latest, most adorable puppy, Bella.
(Yes, you will see more pics of this adorable dog!) Angie has been busy camping and glamping all over with
her beau, Will. Deanna and her husband have been doing a lot of hiking and enjoyed a trip to Spain where they
visited their two daughters who were in a study-abroad program.
Here are just a few of our highlights and
meaningful moments from this past year:
April/May ‘18: Region 1 & 15 competitions:
So fun to be mic testers at both Region 1 and 15
contests. And be able to do a package set for
Open division for Region 1 and eval at Region
Region 15.
May ‘18: Coaching retreat day, with coach
Mike Gabriella and our Region 1 friends and
Quartet Champions, Saffron. Every 6 weeks
or so, we are also blessed to have Mike’s
coaching with his guidance and amazing ears!
June ‘18: Retreat weekend with the Buzz Tenor and “double-crowned” Queen, Nancy Cloeter!
August ‘18: Enjoyed meeting Lustre and having the privilege of coaching with Lori Crouter and seeing our
regional friends at RQA. We worked Individually and as a quartet with Debra Lynn, in-person and zooming
online. She is a powerhouse of vocal techniques!
We send our congratulations again to this year’s sister region quartet winners, Saffron (R1), Just 4 (R15), and
Soundbyte (R16) as well as to our 2018 chorus winners, HOTS and Greater Nassau Chorus! Also a big “best
wishes” to Region 1 and Region 15 St. Louis-bound choruses: Coastline Show Chorus, Harmony Celebration
Chorus, Liberty Oak Chorus, and Sirens of Gotham!
Every year there are always ups and downs, but we’re especially thankful for this sisterhood of singing we get
to share and the enrichment we receive as we learn and grow individually and as a quartet. Wishing each of
you a delightful autumn, and whether you’re singing for the first time or you’ve been around the block in this
singing “sport”, we hope you find your passion and your joy and bring it each time you share your gift of
song!
