Mollyockett Chorus
We’re thrilled to welcome two new members to our chorus! Rebecca Lloyd and Nancy Sosman visited
with us in late winter, and both have mastered a full repertoire of songs in a short time, really adding to
our Lead Section. We are so happy they decided to share their talents with us. In good weather,
Rebecca rides her Harley to rehearsals that are a good 45 minutes from her home.
We’ve been celebrating the 1950’s with our summer show, under the talented direction of Simon
Smith. Songs are introduced by two reminiscing “grandmas” as they look nostalgically at their high
school yearbooks. The humorous script was written by our own Jan Ward, who can always be counted
on to create an entertaining show. Audiences always seem to love the ‘50’s era songs and certainly
enjoyed our outfits-classic poodle skirts (sewn by our own very talented seamstresses) and saddle shoes.
We performed our first show at the end of June at the Poland Spring Resort in the acoustically beautiful
All Souls Chapel. The audience enjoyed the show and was especially impressed when the chorus didn’t
miss a beat when the power went out for about 10 minutes in the middle of the show. We certainly
experienced first hand one of the many benefits of singing without music!
The songs from our show were also sung at The First Congregational Church in Bridgton as well as at
the annual Bethel Art Fair. Fair goers were serenaded as we sang from the gazebo on the village green
on an ideal summer day. We generated a lot of comments about our poodle outfits as we wandered the
green before and after our performance.
The chorus also performed at a dedication ceremony at a local American Legion post. The weather was
perfect for this outdoor event where the chorus sang several songs from the summer show.
We have two more shows scheduled for the fall. October 26th at the Denmark Performing Arts Center
and October 27th at the First Universalist Church in Norway. For those of you unfamiliar with the
infamous Maine directional sign of our internationally named towns, no, we are not traveling to Europe
for these performances.
Many of us will be attending the annual fall regional where we look forward to spending time with our
sisters in song from Region One!
