Rhythm of NH Show Chorus
Congratulations to our Regional champions and all who participated in contest!
RNH has had quite an eventful year. We got the opportunity to compete on WGBH Boston’s
Acappella Competition Show, Sing That Thing! along with our Sisters in Harmony, Merrimack Valley
Acappella Chorus! It was an amazing experience for us, we had a blast and our newbies got a chance
to be in front of judges prior to hitting the stage at contest.
Eight new singers join our chorus over the last part of 2017 and into the contest season of 2018. They
have all made such an impact on our chorus, with enthusiasm and hard work, that we wanted to know
how they felt after the experience of their first months and contest season. Here are their responses:
Jamie
I joined RNH after a long pause to solidify my career as a music teacher and finish my third degree
(masters in theatre arts). So, in July I decided to give it a try, two of my fellow teachers were in the
group and I’d seen RNH perform at voices of the 603, so I figured it didn’t hurt to try. I fell in love.
The group itself was a bigger reason to stay than the music, that’s a bonus. The girls in the group are
loving, welcoming, supportive and above all encouraging. Our director is just as supportive and caring,
because of her kindness and passion I work harder. After our fall show, it was time to work toward
contest and meet the amazing coach Mo Field. I was scared to death when our coaching weekend
came. I was more worried that I didn’t know the music as well as everyone else, I totally thought I
would just mess everyone up. But after that weekend I felt confident, solid. As the weeks passed, I felt
ready until we had to record ourselves and the week before friends and family night found out I had
learned parts wrong...ugh. So I worked to make them right.
Then came contest weekend. I was finishing my own musical production at my job so got in late. The
morning came and it was time to warm up and get ready. I had breakfast with Jessie and Andrea, I
asked questions about awards and what the day would be like. Suddenly it was time to start the pattern
in the lobby. It felt like only moments between pattern start and hitting the stage. I didn’t really get
nervous until we were on the stairs to go on, I was a bundle of excited, nervous and ready. Then we hit
the stage. We sang our package and it was over. (continued on next page)
