The White Witch’s White
Chocolate Chai Latte
from The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, by C. S.
Lewis
Makes 4 cups
“Edmund felt much better as he began to sip the hot drink. It was something he had never
tasted before, very sweet and foamy and creamy, and it warmed him right down to his toes.”
In The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, C. S. Lewis never says exactly what beverage
the White Witch serves Edmund on his first trip to Narnia. We only know that it is “sweet
and foamy and creamy” and wonderfully warm—a perfect description of a chai latte! This
recipe includes a bit of melted white chocolate to make this drink truly special.
INGREDIENTS
6 chai tea bags
½ cup milk
¼ cup honey
3 tablespoons white chocolate chips
INSTRUCTIONS
1 Brew the tea bags for 7 minutes in 4 cups very hot water from a
tea kettle. While you wait, heat the milk in a microwave-safe bowl or
mug for approximately 30 seconds until hot and steaming.
2 Whisk honey and white chocolate chips into milk until chips are
dissolved.
3 When tea is finished steeping, discard tea bags and transfer tea to
a blender. Gradually add half the milk mix and blend for 1 minute.
Add the remaining milk mix and blend for 1 minute more.
