Island transfer of the metacarpophalangeal joint
This patient sustained trauma resulting in significant injury to the index finger as well as
destruction of the metacarpophalangeal joint of the third ray. It was therefore decided to
transfer the metacarpophalangeal joint from the index finger to reconstruct the
metacarpophalangeal joint of the middle finger. In this case, the index finger served as a
donor finger due to the extensive damage that would have inevitably led to stiffness
following reconstruction of this index finger.
