them from turning freely on the shaft. These Free Lock anvils should always be sharpened
in sets and need to be kept the same width or it will affect the slitting size of the paper.
SELF-LOCKING ANVIL.
The Self-Locking (SL) bottom anvil have holes on the side of the cutter with a special spanner
that fits onto it. You need to turn the spanner so that the centric ring on the inside of the
cutter locks onto the shaft. This is an expensive type of locking mechanism and not that
popular. It can also be a bit of a safety risk. If the spanner slips you could cut your hand
on the top cutter.
GRUB LOCKING ANVIL.
The Grub Locking (GR) bottom anvil has a grub screw that when tightened, clamps onto a
flat on the shaft. This method would leave marks on the shaft and would become difficult to
remove the bottom anvil after a while. The shaft would need to be re-polished to remove all
the burs and marks from the surface of the shaft.
MULTI LOCKING ANVIL.
The Multi Locking (ML) bottom anvil have a plate fitted in a grove on the inside of the ID.
This is attached to a grub screw that when turned in will lock onto the shaft. The same
applies when you loosen the grub screw. This is a very popular concept and the advantage
is that it does not damage your shaft.
