3. Read a passage too, e.g.
One day we went out to bask under the smiling sun. All around, daffodils
danced in the wind and the nodding snowdrops swung from side to side. The
wind whistled around in the treetops. The eerie voice of silence penetrated our
ears.
4. Discuss the poems and the passage. Talk about occasions when personification
could be used (in describing scenes, in poetry, in young children’s stories).
5. Take the children outside so that they can write about the scene using
personification. They could write their descriptions as prose or as poetry.
Learning for Life (Fulfilment)
1. The children will have been introduced to personification.
2. They will be able to recognise it in prose and poetry, using it to add interest to
their writing, when it is appropriate.
