P. 11
History Year 3 and Year 4
THE WORLD INTO WHICH JESUS WAS BORN
Truth to Teach
To look at the way in which the Roman Empire began and subsequently
grew, comparing it to the birth of Jesus and the establishment of the
Kingdom of God.
To look at the extent of the Empire and the Kingdom.
To create a time-line
To learn about the invasion of Britain by the Romans.
Way to Work
1. Review the previous week’s lesson.
2. Use a world map to mark Rome and Bethlehem, explaining why these
places are vital.
3. Compare the establishment of the Empire by force with the coming of
Jesus as a baby.
Look at Rome as a village, city, country, continent, empire.
4. Read an account of how the Romans invaded Britain in 54 BC and left
around 400 AD.
Compare this with Jesus being alive from the beginning of time and for
ever.
5. Create a time-line in the classroom which can be referred to throughout
the project.
Explain BC (before Christ) and AD (Anno Domini or the year of our Lord).
Children may like to fill in one themselves.
