Jesus’ teaching has certain characteristics:-
a) Jesus prayed regularly to the Father and relied on the Holy Spirit.
b) He motivated his disciples by giving them vision and goals eg Matthew
5:13.
c) He also promised them rewards eg, the blessing of the Father in Matthew
6:6.
d) Often Jesus captured the people’s attention using visual aids, eg the coin
in Matthew 22:19-21.
e) Like all good teachers, Jesus reviewed previous teaching to ensure that
his disciples had understood it, eg Luke 24:44.
f) He established how much his followers already knew by questioning them
then he took them on to greater knowledge and understanding, eg
Matthew 16:13-18.
g) Jesus proved that story-telling is one of the most effective ways of
conveying the truth as seen in the parables.
h) To illustrate abstract truths, Jesus used the familiar or concrete
examples, eg Matthew 13.
i) He demonstrated what to do on occasions then sent the disciples out to
do the same as he did with the seventy seven in Luke 10.
j) There were times when he let them discover things for themselves, eg
Mark 14:68.
k) Scripture was often quoted by Jesus in his teaching, showing his love and
respect of it, eg John 8:17.
