Y1 Summer Term Part 1, CW Lesson 4

                                                HOW MAY I HELP?

            Truth to Teach (Source)

Ephesians 6:7 ‘With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men;’

To recognise different areas of serving.

To learn vocabulary associated with various occupations.

            Way to Work (Means)

                1. Review previous lessons.

                2. When Jesus was on the earth he learnt the trade of his earthly father so he
became a carpenter. He served other people with his skills. Talk about the
furniture Jesus may have made – tables, stools, tools, etc.

                3. Later, Jesus travelled from village to village and from town to town serving
people in various ways as a teacher, healer, etc. He always sought to please
his Heavenly Father in all that he did.

                4. Think about people who serve us in school each day, eg caretaker,
administrator, teacher, postmen, milkmen, etc. Each one of us has certain gifts,
talents and skills which give us clues as to the job God may have for us. Ask if
anyone knows what they want to be when they grow up.

                5. When we have different needs we contact different people, e.g. a mechanic if
our car breaks down, a florist if we need some special flowers or a baker if we
need some bread. In reality, most things are now obtained from a supermarket

but there are still some small specialised shops.

                6. Use an old or toy telephone to pretend to ring up different shops with various
needs, e.g. “I have a toothache so please may I book an appointment with the
                    dentist?”

                7. Go through the worksheet with the children. More able children may like to
think of other shopkeepers and other professional people who serve us.
