Y1 Summer Term Part 2, CW Lesson 10-11
SHORT PLAYS
Truth to Teach (Source)
To encourage the children to read and write simple plays.
Way to Work (Means)
1. Review the previous lessons.
2. Read one or two of Aesop’s fables to the children. Explain that even animals
can talk in these fables. Discuss briefly what a fable is in preparation for Y2
work. Ask the children which characters are polite in the stories, if there are
questions in the fable, whether the characters respect each other or not, etc.
3. Show the children how conversations can be written as plays, e.g.
Fly: ……………..
Spider: …………………
4. Let the children practise being the characters in the plays on the worksheets.
Encourage them to read the plays several times using different, expressive
voices. More able children may want to change the ending to the plays and
write them out so that it can also be acted out. They may like to add more
illustrations or make masks to act out the plays.
Learning for Life (Fulfilment)
1. The children should appreciate how simple plays can be written.
2. Some children may have a desire to write more plays of their own.
3. They will have been introduced to fables in preparation for work in Y2.
