Science Y5 – Living and non-living things – week 7
5. A time line or booklet could be created to show the approximate ages for each of these
stages.
6. Let the children draw other life cycles.
7. Review the plant life cycle – pollination, germination, dispersal, fertilisation, etc from Term
1.
8. Talk about how God changes us on the inside as well as on the outside as we grow.
Compare to the butterfly life cycle. The chrysalis is not always very beautiful to look at,
but out of it comes a magnificent butterfly. End the lesson by asking the Holy Spirit to
keep changing us on the inside as well as enabling us to grow strong and healthy. Jesus
grew in stature and wisdom (Luke 2:40).
Learning for Life (Fulfilment)
The children will have reinforced learning on reproduction from Term 1. They will also have
understood more of the original plan of God for the earth to be filled with living things and that he
has created an order in which organisms grow and reproduce. The importance of allowing God to
change us on the inside as well as the outside will hopefully impact the children too.
