                                                   LIFE CYCLES

        Truth to Teach (Source)

Genesis 1:22 ‘God blessed them (sea creatures) and said, “Be fruitful and increase in number
and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth.”’

Genesis 1:28 ‘God blessed them (humans) and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in
number. Fill the earth and subdue it.”’

 To recognise that God has purposed for all living things to increase in number through
                   reproduction.

 To learn that reproduction is vital for the continuation of a species.

 To appreciate that in every cycle there are distinct processes and stages.

 To review work done on reproduction in Term 1.

        Way to Work (Means)

            1. Review the test and any perceived areas of weakness in the first half term’s work.

            2. Read and discuss the above verses as part of the introduction to life cycles.

            3. Give out cards each bearing the name of a stage in a plant or animal life cycle.

                   E.g. egg, pupa, chrysalis, butterfly
                              frogspawn, tadpole, frog
                              acorn, sapling, oak
                              baby, toddler, child, adolescent, adult
                              egg, nestling, bird

Let the children move around until they meet others to complete their cycle.
Share results, drawing the cycles on the board. Let the children suggest others.

            4. Let the children cut pictures out of old catalogues to show the human life cycle or draw
                   pictures of their own.
