Overview of Y2 Spring Term Part 1
TALES FROM OTHER CULTURES - ‘WHO MADE ME?’

        Truth to Teach (Source)

               Heart concept: Creator and Creation

 God is our Maker and his creation shows us what he is like.

 To look at a folk tale from another culture

        Way to Work (Means)

            1. Review previous lessons.

            2. Show the children the book ‘Who Made Me?’ by Shirley Tulloch (published by Lion,

ISBN 0-7459-4189-3). Ask confident readers to read each paragraph in turn.

Re-read the first paragraph then ask the children how the story begins. (With a
description of the setting) Ask the children to find describing words in this

paragraph. Ask where this village might be.

            3. Re-read paragraph two then ask why the question is written in capital letters. (For
emphasis) Explain that there is a special theme running through this story. It is

hoped that Zanele will find the answer to her question by the end of the story.

            4. Re-read paragraphs three and four and ask how many special friends Zanele had.
Draw the children’s attention to how you write the word in a story rather than the

                 figure.

Ask them if they think this is a true story.
Ask if they think Zanele was afraid of Lion. (She was skipping.)

            5. Re-read paragraphs five and six then ask what Zanele learned from Lion.
Let the children predict how the story will unfold.

            6. Give the children the worksheet to be answered in their books. Explain how to set

out work with a title at the top. Children should start a new line for each new answer,
and begin with the number of the sentence or question. Make sure that they do not
write out the sentence or the question. Questions should be answered in full
sentences with capital letters and full stops
