Overview of Y2 Spring Term Part 1
From that time many parents in Holland and in this country have told this story to
their children, just as I have been telling you. Can you tell me why?

            3. Explain that it is a story of courage, and such a story can inspire other people to be
courageous, and put the needs of others before their own comfort just as Jesus did.
This little story is a diamond among the dust of stories from other cultures.

            4. Look for clues in the story which indicate that it is from a different culture. (The

                 setting, etc)
Tell other stories in story times from other cultures during the week. Some of them
will have clues in them, which help us realise where they are from. Others are
simply folk tales and no one can tell which country they are from.

                 * A useful book is ‘The Lion Book of World Stories’ by Bob Hartman
                 ISBN 0 7459 3950 3

            5. Let the children write a few lines summarising the story in their books or put

questions on the board for them to answer,

        Learning for Life (Fulfilment)

            1. The children should be aware of folk tales from other cultures and of some of their
                 features.

            2. They should grow in discernment regarding such stories, appreciating what is good,
whilst discarding what is neither wholesome nor helpful to them.

            3. They will be reminded of how all of life makes sense as we relate to our Father God.
