Overview of Y2 Spring Term Part 1
                                        FANTASY, FRIENDS AND FUN

        Truth to Teach (Source)

            Heart concept: Creator and Creation

God gives man creativity to create characters (even those who could never ever be) and

to have them relate and function in a real or imaginary setting.

 To distinguish between fiction which could never happen and fiction that could

                    happen.

        Way to Work (Means)

The children could be asked to bring a fiction book from home to share with the class why

they like it and the main story line. Some of the following activities could be chosen for this
        lesson.

            1. Consider fiction which is very believable, e.g.

‘Alfie and Annie Rose’ stories by Shirley Hughes
‘Floss’ or ‘Emma’s Lamb’ by Kim Lewis
‘The Market Square Dog’ or ‘The Christmas Day Kitten’ by James Herriot

Distinguish between stories which could possibly have happened and those which
could never happen. Today’s story could never, ever happen. The author has enjoyed
using his imagination and creating some unusual characters, and then he has had fun

creating a story around them. These modern made-up stories are called fantasy
stories. In them we can meet new friends and share some fun together.

            2. Share a book such as ‘Little Bobo’ by Serena Romanelli and Hans de Beer or begin to
read ‘Flat Stanley’ by Jeff Brown (published by Mammoth, ISBN 0-7497-0137-4)

Enjoy getting acquainted with the main characters.

Consider how the author thought of these characters. God created real people, but
we can create characters and stories. Consider what makes a lovable character.

There may be something unusual about the character, but he/she responds in well-
known ways, so that we can identify with him/her.

            3. The children might like to create a character together, based on a soft toy, and then

cause it to have some adventures.
