Science Y6 – Marvellous Me – lesson 1

                    • Creation was designed and carefully executed. While outlining this make a good paper aeroplane. Conduct
                       test flights.

                    • Read and discuss Genesis 1: 26-28.

                    • Ask the children if they think that their bodies are the result of an accidental explosion, or of design and
                       care?

(An alternative activity could be used; let the children form small groups and use a large sheet of paper to draw around one
member of the group lying down. They could then draw and label the organs, etc which are on the inside and the outside of
the body. They must not refer to any books. This could be a very humorous activity!)

               4. Share some amazing facts about our bodies to develop not only knowledge but also a sense of wonder, worship
               and wisdom.

               5. Split class into groups to list the component parts of the body. Some may prefer to create a ‘body alphabet’
with one or more parts of the body being written for every letter of the alphabet. (Use a separate sheet or the
               worksheet.)

               6. Groups feedback to the class so that a full list can be compiled. Identify the systems, e.g. respiration, nerve,
               circulation, digestion, reproduction.

               7. The children should begin to think of sources of information, e.g. books, Internet, visitors with the relevant
               expertise.

               8. Explain briefly that all Upper Junior projects aim to proceed from knowledge to understanding to wonder to
               to wisdom.

               9. Let the children design a cover for their project, either by hand or on the computer. The worksheet could be
completed or notes written up of the lesson.

        Learning for Life (Fulfilment)

It is hoped that the children will be inspired for the term’s work and have an overview of the objectives of the project. They
will also have been exposed to the different theories of Creation, Intelligent Design and Evolution. Hopefully, they will have
become more aware of the numerous components of the human body and the importance of stewarding our bodies as
        temples of the Holy Spirit.
