7. Pose various questions for the children to answer.

                            • Must the string be taut?

                            • What is the ideal length of string (1m, 2m or 3m)?
                            • Does it work better if the string is thicker?
                            • Does it work if the two people are in different rooms?

               8. Gather back after a set time to share findings. Show the children how an ear trumpet
works by collecting and directing sounds to your ear.

               9. Let the children record their work with labelled diagrams.

        Learning for Life (Fulfilment)

The children will have benefited from working in groups to conduct experiments and will have had
more experience in recording their work accurately. They will have recognised that sounds
sometimes have to be increased and sometimes reduced.

Talking about people with hearing difficulties will hopefully have given them more compassion for

        such people.
