REFLECTED LIGHT
Truth to Teach (Source)
Proverbs 27:19 ‘As water reflects a face, so a man’s heart reflects the man.’
2 Corinthians 3:18 ‘And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being
transformed into his likeness, with ever-increasing glory, which comes
from the Lord, who is the Spirit.’
1 Corinthians 13:12 ‘Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror, then we shall see face to
face.’
We all reflect what is in our hearts through our behaviour, attitudes, etc.
It is God’s heart that we reflect Jesus to people.
Light can be reflected.
Light travels in straight lines.
Way to Work (Means)
Equipment: Mirrors, torches, black paper, comb, card, scissors
1. Review the last lesson.
2. Read and discuss briefly the two verses above, ensuring the children understand the
meaning of the word ‘reflect’.
3. Ask the children questions to establish what they already know about light.
• How does light travel to our eyes? Is it in straight or wavy lines? (straight)
• How fast does light travel? (186,000 miles per second)
• Does light travel faster or slower than sound? (faster; we see lightning
before we hear thunder.)
4. Divide the class into groups to conduct the following experiments.
Experiment 1: The children will need three black cards with a small hole in each one and
a torch. They should seek to line up the three black cards with varying distances
between them to see what happens when the torch shines through the holes. What
happens when the holes are not perfectly lined up? What does this show about how
light travels? ( It travels in straight lines.)
The children should consider how to record their results accurately.
