WRITING PLAYS 2

            Truth to Teach (Source)

                 Matthew 28:18-20 The Great Commission

 Acting can be a very effective way of communicating the Gospel.
 A play script gives actors the information they need to perform a play.
 Settings and stage directions are a necessary part of writing plays.

            Way to Work (Means)
This lesson could be combined with a creative writing lesson.

                1. Review the previous lesson.

                2. Read out some of the children’s writing about their settings and actors from the previous
                    lesson.

                3. Let the children imagine that they are play-writers about to produce a play. Let them imagine
where the setting of their play will be. Encourage them to write a paragraph about the setting
in their books, followed by a paragraph about the actors.

                4. Give clear guidelines as to the length of the play, how many characters, the wholesomeness of
                    the play, etc.

Remind the children of how to set it out with colons, brackets, etc.

                5. Let them use the lesson to write their own plays. These could be acted out in other lessons.

            Learning for Life (Fulfilment)

                1. The children should be more confident in attempting to write a short play.

                2. They should know how a play is set out and the components necessary.
