Way to Work (Means)
1. Review previous lessons.
2. Remind the children that, though prepositions are small words, they are very
important in adding information to a sentence. Talk about ‘where’ and ‘when’
prepositions, e.g.
Where - down, across, around, by, up, into, over, under, through, on
When – after, before, until, while, during, on, at
3. Give examples of how changing a preposition can change the meaning of a
sentence.
E.g. The cat ran behind the tree.
The cat ran up the tree.
The cat ran around the tree.
4. Explain that prepositions are often part of a prepositional phrase (a group of
words without a verb).
