Like all competitive pursuits, archery demands resilience andcharacter. Inlastyear’sShooteroftheYearTourna- ment, Erica was eliminated in the first round. She was devastated, but her tears marked a turning point in her growth as an athlete. Her parents encouraged her to harness the hurt and disappointment and turn it into positive energy. She decided to dedicate herself to the goal of earning an invitation back to the tournament this year, to better represent herself and the Crowfoot Rod & Gun Club.

Her dedication led to significant improvement and the best scores in her age group all season—and, finally, an invitation back to the Shooter of the Year Tournament. Erica sailed past last year’s setback and won the tournament for her age group! Her parents are very proud of her ability to stay focused and achieve her goals. What a great testimony to hard work!

Pop-Up Remake @ PHS
by Samantha Casile
Our S.P.I.R.I.T. Club Pop-Up Event was held this month along with the Remake Learning Events being held at Pittsburgh schools. Our event was driven by showing our school and community the diversity that surrounds us. It allowed students
to speak freely about who they are and how their heritage made them the person they are today. Our group was made
for everyone to have a voice with equal representation.
The Pop-Up was held in our high school cafe that we created through grant money driven by the desire to create a brave space in our school. We had student
booths that visitors visited and embarked on a student-led cultural experience. Visi- tors were taken to Haiti, France, Italy, South Korea, and the Netherlands as well as experienced the traditions of Judaism. The booths included cultural aspects such as food, clothing, and music. The students proudly shared their cultural background with the public. The six Plum student speakers worked to prove that the youth can educate all ages, helping to eliminate discriminating behaviors of all cultures and created a new outlook of the youth’s ability to educate, having an ongoing effect.
Since the beginning of S.P.I.R.I.T, we planned to have an event such as this and now that our cafe is in full swing, we believed that it is only fitting to host an event that is as pure as the meaning of S.P.I.R.I.T; inclusion. For not only myself
