Activity 3.16
• Have you ever developed a sponsorship proposal?
• If so, which of the qualities of a good proposal were included in your proposal?
Writing the proposal
• Executive summary — outline briefly the components of the sponsorship, its
benefits and the value to the sponsor.
• Introduction — grab the attention of the reader, outlining the unique and
exciting nature of the opportunity.
• Benefits to the sponsor — for example, signage, visibility, image
enhancement, increased sales, etc.
• Background of the club/federation — this can include details of your
facilities, key personnel, history and structure of the club/federation, statistics
relating to the growth of the sport in your country and in your local area, etc.
• The benefits to the club/federation if sponsored — how you plan to use
any money or other assistance the sponsors may provide. They will be
particularly pleased if you plan to use the money for activities which increase
the future viability of the club/federation, as this gives them confidence in your
future relationship.
• The level/s of investment required — gold, silver and bronze packages (see
the sponsorship proposal information at Appendix 2).
• How the sponsor will be serviced by the club/federation — servicing the
sponsor is discussed later in this section.
• Future goals of the club/federation (strategic plan) — what is planned
for the future of your club/federation. Sponsors will not want to enter into a
partnership with an organisation that has a dull future. The best way to show
the sponsor what you have planned for the future is through the club/federation
strategic plan.
