Activity 3.17
If you answered yes to Activity 3.16, how did your proposal format compare to
that just outlined?
Servicing the sponsor
Servicing the sponsor is what you do once you have secured a sponsorship,
to make sure that all of your promises are delivered. If you said that you would
present monthly attendance figures, present them. If you said that 10 of their
colleagues could enjoy corporate hospitality at your events, ensure that this takes
place.
Example
The following example outlines how a sporting club that was targeting a
resort would service the sponsor. To ensure a viable return on investment, any
sponsorship arrangement made will include the following servicing arrangements:
• quarterly reports will be issued outlining the exposure gained by the resort for
all media outlets
• resort personnel will be invited to attend a range of official functions, at which
the resort will be publicly thanked for its support
• a yearly editorial will appear in the local newspaper outlining the great support
the organisation receives from the resort
• bi-annual statistical updates in relation to player and affiliate numbers in the
region will be forwarded to resort management
• no sponsorship agreement whatsoever will be made with another sponsor
that, in the eyes of the resort, may present as a direct or indirect competitor of
the resort.
Activity 3.18
Discuss the types of methods that could be used by your club/federation to
service a sponsor.
