Club/federation purpose statement
The club/federation purpose statement acts to speed up change and
development. It identifies the main reason the club/federation exists, which
is helpful as this is sometimes forgotten in the day-day running of the club/
federation.
To develop your club/federation purpose statement, you will need to answer the
following:
• what is the club/federation (nature)
• what does it do (products/services)
• who does it serve (members)
• why does it exist? (purpose)
Example
My Club is a school athletics club (nature) which provides the opportunity for
juniors (members) to compete in club nights and interclub meets (services),
and for coaches, officials, administrators and volunteers (members) to assist in
this process in order for the club to achieve social, financial and athletic success
(purpose).
Activity 7.5
Develop a purpose statement for your club/federation.
Once you have a purpose statement developed, it is time to think about your club/
federation vision, mission and values.
• Vision — what your club/federation wants to be.
• Mission — how your club/federation will achieve its vision.
• Values — the way your club/federation will go about its business.
